Fifth Grade Fun

Hey, friends!

Today, I want to take a trip down memory lane to talk about my absolute favorite year in elementary school—fifth grade. I can still picture my teacher and classmates like it was yesterday. We were a hilarious bunch, handing out nicknames that stuck through high school, sharing jokes and stories that had us laughing so hard our stomachs ached, and, of course, we had the most bizarre, random class pet.

Now, before you get too excited, let me clarify. Our "class pet" wasn’t exactly the furry, live animal type. My school wasn’t exactly the “bring-your-pet-to-class” kind of place (unfortunately). But this wasn’t just any regular stuffed animal—it was the most magical, special, and significant creature in our lives at the time: a unicorn. Yep, you heard that right. A unicorn.

Here’s where it gets fun. As a class, we got to suggest names for this mythical creature, and vote on our favorite. The best part of this pet? The unicorn was a reward for good behavior, assigned to different desk sections each week. Naturally, we all focused on being top-tier, model students to earn her companionship throughout the week. So, what did we end up naming our beloved class pet? Drumroll, please… Olive Oil! Yep, you read that correctly—Olive Oil, the unicorn. It may sound crazy, but Olive Oil brought so much joy to our class.

My friends from other classes didn’t have anything close to the fun we did. They had different teachers, no class pets, and probably not as many inside jokes or laugh-until-you-cry moments. But that’s what made fifth grade so memorable. It was the kind of year where you found comfort and happiness in the little things—and in my case, that little thing was a stuffed unicorn named Olive Oil.

I hope all of you can look back at a year or a moment in your life and find that same peace and joy.

Here’s to more magical memories!

I am so happy you’re here.
