The Five Love Languages

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you’re decked out in green and having the LUCKIEST day!
Have you ever heard of the five love languages? There’s actually a quiz you can take to discover what your primary love language is. The five love languages are: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Physical Touch, Acts of Service, and Receiving Gifts.
I’m bringing this up because there’s an interesting connection between your love language and how you learn, both in and outside the classroom. For example, if your love language is Words of Affirmation (like mine), you might find that positive, encouraging words can make a huge difference when you’re learning something new or tackling a tough challenge. On the flip side, while motivational words are always nice, they might not be as effective for your learning if they’re not your love language.
If you visit my most recent post on my Instagram account (linked below), it showcases a handmade thank-you booklet. Once upon a time, I had the joy of being a mystery reader in a first-grade classroom, where I sent in an audio recording of myself reading a book. In response, each student thoughtfully crafted individual thank-you letters and drawings, which were compiled into this delightful booklet and presented to me. Though it was years ago, I often find myself reflecting on this heartwarming gesture, revisiting its pages with fondness.
Understanding your love language is not only helpful for learning, but it can also improve other relationships in your life and give you more insight into who you are.
When it comes to tutoring, knowing your love language can help me personalize our sessions to make them more effective and enjoyable for you. For instance, if your love language is Quality Time, we might focus on creating a relaxed, focused environment where we can dive deep into your studies together. If it’s Acts of Service, you might appreciate me providing extra resources and tools to support your learning. Knowing what motivates you will help me better support your growth.
